I was venturing in the web to search for cybercrimes and here’s a fresh one- the Senator Gatchalian P1 million incident.

From the site that I read, his credited card was compromised even though he was a high-ranking public official, he was not safe from cyber attacks, with the perpetrator ordering P1 million worth of food from a foo delivery service or also known as Foodpanda. The said senator posted on Twitter that the suspect did four transactions in just a span of an hour.

The related cybercrime law is the R.A. 8792 or Electronic Commerce Law. It states that it provides for the recognition and use of electronic commercial and non-commercial transactions and documents.

Here are some of the tips to prevent cybercrime lwas:

  • Use strong passwords for your socmed accounts
  • Keep your software updated
  • Manage social media settings
  • Take countermeasures to help protect yourself against identity theft
  • Mind yourself upon sharing your personal information in the social media
